Pupils from Sgoil an t-Oib, Leverburgh, were treated to a fascinating visit from one of our Ecological consultants last week to learn more about the rich biodiversity of the local machair. Shona shared her insightful knowledge and, through machair walks and bird watching, the children discovered the vibrant plant and bird species that can be found within our island machair.
The day’s highlights included spotting sparrows, oystercatchers and even a golden eagle; an unforgettable moment which brought the lesson to life. The hands-on experience helped deepen the children’s understanding of island wildlife.
According to their Facebook post, Sgoil an t-Oib said: “We really enjoyed meeting with Shona to learn more about different types of birds and plants on the Machair. We even spotted a golden eagle.”
