Atlantic58 has reached 100 projects, an achievement which reflects a decade of steady growth for the company.
Laura said: “Reaching 100 projects feels incredibly meaningful, reflecting years of hard work, resilience and the trust placed in us by clients who value both local knowledge and high professional standards.”
Atlantic58’s 100th project is one rooted firmly in community, landscape and long-term stewardship. The milestone project forms part of the Eyes on the Bog (EOTB) initiative, led and funded by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme (IUCN UK PP) which provides scientifically robust, repeatable, affordable and long-term monitoring of peatland health. Jane Akerman, Programme Manager of IUCN UK PP, said “We’re really excited to support some of the first Eyes on the Bog monitoring in Scotland, and the first ever in the Outer Hebrides. It’s so important that the local community can get involved, and they will be part of a UK-wide network of citizen scientists helping to understand the health of one of our most precious habitats.” Find out more about EOTB at www.iucn-uk-peatlandprogramme.org/get-involved/eyes-on-the-bog.
To deliver the project, Atlantic58 has partnered with Galson Estate Trust (Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn) to monitor an area on the Ness–Tolsta Heritage Trail, placing peatland monitoring directly within a well-used community and visitor setting. With permission from the estate, a distinctive totemic marker has been installed near the Ness end of the trail, allowing walkers to engage directly with the monitoring process. Jemma MacVicar, Executive manager of Galson Estate Trust, said “Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn are delighted to be partnering with Atlantic58 on their Eyes on the Bog project. Monitoring our peatland informs restorative and protective work to ensure this vital habitat is well maintained as it is passed on to future generations through community ownership.”
Looking ahead, Atlantic58 plans to build on its 100-project milestone by strengthening its team structure and developing an Education and Research focus, ensuring skills, knowledge, and experience continue to be shared across the business and the local community.
