Location: Horshader, Isle of Lewis

Client:  Horshader Community Development Trust

The Project: Horshader Community Development Trust (HCDT) wanted to identify site options to develop a community woodland, engage with the community around the options and undertake a full financial, technical and environmental feasibility assessment of a full community woodland scheme.

Our Role: Atlantic58 was commissioned to identify an appropriate site(s) for development of a community woodland and collate a feasibility report detailing the technical, financial and environmental viability of the proposals. Online and event based consultation was undertaken to gather views of the local community on proposed sites and the nature of the woodland.

Outcome:  A number of woodland creation schemes were selected based on technical review, consultation with stakeholders and the local community. The outputs of the project will be incorporated into an application for a woodland grant scheme. Detailed recommendations were developed for the client to take forward including suggestions for further initiatives to support local residents incorporate tree planting into a domestic setting.
