The final report of the study assessing the socio-economic impacts of a catch and release Atlantic bluefin tuna fishery has recently been published.

Atlantic bluefin tuna have been recorded in large numbers returning to their former migratory routes since 2013, including the waters around the Western Isles. The study, commissioned by Harris Development Ltd with funding from Marine Scotland, assesses the impacts of establishing a bluefin tuna research and monitoring project, linked with a recreational catch and release fishery based exclusively out of the Western Isles.

Atlantic58 (formerly WI Marine and Environment) was part of a consortium delivering the project including Aquatera and Fulton Fisheries Ltd.
